The Perfect Home
Finding your dream home: balancing must-haves and trade-offs in your search
Some of your necessities may contradict one another, so make sure to look objectively and critically at your must-haves. If one of your must-haves is lots of natural light streaming in your windows, the heavily treed heritage neighbourhood may not actually be the best fit.
Sometimes when you fall in love with a house it can be hard to keep emotions out of your search, especially when you’re hoping a house will feel like home. Just keep your must-haves and trade-offs in mind to insure that you’re making a good decision for your family.

Ask yourself these 10 questions to help narrow down your house search.
- Do you want a detached house, row house, duplex, townhouse, or a condo?
- Do you enjoy landscaping and maintaining a yard?
- Do you plan on travelling often?
- Are you the type that entertains or has houseguests often?
- Is a lot of natural light a necessity?
- Are you able to handle repairs?
- Would you survive a renovation?
- Are you comfortable with the notion of a condo board making decisions and rules about your home that will affect you?
- Is easy access to public transportation important to you?
- How close do you want to be to your neighbours?

Those experiences stay with you. They guide you. Honestly, they become a benchmark for how you try to show up every single day. It doesn’t always happen in real estate or sales, but it absolutely influences how I approach my work. In some of those standout moments, I’ve even joked with the person delivering the experience, asking if they were looking for a career change. That’s how impactful it was. After 21 years in sales, I’ve learned something simple but powerful: "We can can always do more. The real question is whether we choose to."
